Description: This was a challenging project for me as it was the first time I've ever designed a tabletop game. Nonetheless, the game is a dice game based on chance that also includes combat mechanics. Initially the game was based on a version of darts resembling Cricket, with a circular game board. However, as the game was tested, I realized that it needed to stand farther apart from its roots. Additionally, players were frequently coming up with rolls that had no effect (they didn't contribute to closing the 15,16,17,18,19,20 and Bullseye areas of the board). I designed a combat mechanic to allow players to remove eachother's chits. Each player also gets a player sheet where they can mark down what number they rolled and providing bonuses for certain combinations. In this way I was able to make every roll meaningful. I decided to lightly theme the board and cards just to give the game a humorous veneer. I learned a lot from building this game - from combat to simple player feedback - and also learned the value of play-testers, whose thoughts drove many of the largest changes to the game. You can find a .pdf document detailing the design process of this game at the top of this page. |
